Background

I'm Katelyn (she/her), a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) in Richmond, BC in both public and private settings. I studied at UBC where I earned my Masters of Education in Counselling Psychology, my Bachelor of Education, and my Bachelor of Arts.
Prior to my private practice, I worked extensively as an educator and counsellor with adolescents of diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds experiencing various psychological and family-related difficulties. Working with adolescents made me realize just how important compassion and authenticity are to building a strong therapeutic relationship with my clients. In my practice, I offer professional counselling services to individuals who may be experiencing life challenges, searching for personal growth, wishing to develop certain skills, and/or needing support from a caring, nonjudgmental presence.
When you work with me in sessions, you can expect to be met with warmth, compassion, and safety. You will be provided with as much space as needed to feel seen and heard. My practice is grounded in accepting the struggle, rather than trying to reject its existence; instead of eliminating or avoiding difficult feelings, growth comes from learning to sit with the discomfort and working towards a life in line with your values. As a Canadian counsellor of Asian descent, I honour the uniqueness of each client as well as the cultural identities and histories that shape us and impact our approach to mental health. I strive to hear your worldview instead of imposing my values onto you.
Outside of my counselling sessions, I can be seen playing with my cat, caring for my many house plants, or enjoying a tasty cup of coffee.
